Why does the EP05 start in Work Light mode instead of High mode like most flashlights?

The EP05 is designed primarily as a task-illumination tool for industrial environments. Work-Light-first sequencing means that when a field technician pulls out the light to read a gauge, check a valve tag, or inspect a fitting, one button press delivers comfortable, glare-free illumination optimized for close-range work — without the blinding reflection that a 220-lumen high-mode beam can produce off shiny metal surfaces at arm’s length. High mode is accessible with a second press when maximum range is needed. This design choice reflects feedback from industrial users who identified unintended high-mode activation as a daily annoyance and potential safety issue in close-quarters inspection work.

The EP05 uses a standard 18650 lithium-ion cell accessed through the tail cap. The battery is fully user-replaceable — unscrew the tail cap, remove the depleted cell, insert a charged replacement observing correct polarity, and reassemble. Any quality 18650 cell with a nominal voltage of 3.7V is electrically compatible. However, for maintained explosion-proof certification integrity, we strongly recommend using SUPERFIRE-supplied or SUPERFIRE-approved 18650 cells that have been verified to maintain the intrinsically safe circuit parameters under all specified operating conditions. Battery replacement should be performed in a safe (non-hazardous) area only.

IP66 provides complete dust protection (first digit 6) and protection against powerful water jets from any direction (second digit 6). In practice, this means the EP05 can be used in heavy rain, subjected to washdown hoses, and operated in dusty environments (cement plants, grain handling, mining) without ingress. It is not rated for continuous submersion (IP67/IP68) — do not drop the EP05 into liquid-filled sumps, tanks, or flooded areas where it would be submerged. For applications requiring submersion capability, consider the D8 searchlight (IP68-rated) from the SUPERFIRE explosion-proof range.

The EP05 body diameter (35mm) is compatible with many standard helmet flashlight clips and elastic band mounts designed for 1-inch (25mm) to 1.5-inch (38mm) flashlight bodies. SUPERFIRE does not currently offer a dedicated EP05 helmet mount as a standard accessory, but third-party industrial helmet clips from major safety equipment manufacturers are generally compatible. When helmet-mounting, ensure the clip securely grips the anodized body without damaging the surface (rubber-lined clips recommended) and that the mounted position does not interfere with face shields, earmuffs, or hard hat structural integrity. The lightweight 180g design makes helmet mounting practical for extended wear.
